Celina’s university professor Joe Vitone clearly loves these foldable booklets in the form of long strips of paper that are folded like an accordion. In any case, the first assignment this semester was once again to make one of these, and Celina chose the theme “Animals Behind Bars.” As we wrote in an earlier post, we don’t always see zoos and similar institutions as mere places of human amusement, but also as refuges for animals that would otherwise have no chance of survival. And that’s what Celina wanted to express with her work.
And so, on the last day of January, after lectures and before work, Celina and Matthias first went to Austin Zoo to document the first candidates for the Leporello.
Despite the 279 photos Celina had taken that day, she was not entirely satisfied because the pictures of the wolves had not turned out quite right. So there was still work to be done. A good reason for another weekend trip!
