Spring is in full swing, and everywhere it blooms. It’s slowly getting warmer and drier, so it’s time to take another trip into nature. This time we are heading for Johnson City, where two parks are in the immediate vicinity.
L.B.Johnson State Park
Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Buildings is a state park on the Pedernales River in Gillespie County near Johnson City (east of Fredericksburg). The state created the park with donated land to honor Lyndon B. Johnson as a “national and world leader.” Lyndon B. Johnson was the 36th U.S. President. He was born in the Texas Hill Country and grew up there.
In this park, you can experience life on a Texan-German farm, some of it live.
You can also see American bison and Texas longhorns here.
Old Tunnel State Park
Old Tunnel State Park is a former railroad tunnel of the Fredericksburg and Northern Railway, which ceased operations in 1942. Since then, numerous bats have found the area to be an excellent new dwelling and have set up a home there accordingly.
Clearly … this is something for our bat expert, Celina!
