This time Celina has chosen the destinations for our weekend trip and put together a successful mix of “something with animals” and “something stupid historical.” So there was something for everyone to look forward to and something they had to go along with … What a fair family we are!
Capital of Texas Zoo
This lovely zoo park not far from Austin has over 500 rare and wild animals. There are breeding programs for various endangered species here, which is also the park’s primary mission.
Kreische Brewery
The land, purchased in 1849 by German immigrant Heinrich Ludwig Kreische, is now known as Monument Hill. First, he built a house here for his family. Then, in the 1860s, he used spring water from the ravine below his house to start one of the first commercial breweries in Texas.
You can walk through the ruins of this once-bustling brewery and imagine how citizens of Fayette County used to come here to enjoy Kreische’s Bluff Beer.
The surrounding area also has a lot of beauty, and you can go on great hikes.
