It was once again time for living history lessons, so we went on the trail of the German settlers in Texas. And since we didn’t want to do just a history lesson, we combined this excursion with a visit to the Wizard Academy. An acquaintance from Germany brought us to the latter excursion destination (thanks, Chris).
Gruene
Gruene is a section of New Braunfels founded by German settlers and designated a Historic District. Gruene Hall is the oldest dance hall still in use in Texas. Legends such as Willie Nelson, Greg Allman, and Tom Gillam performed here. In 1996 it was the setting for the movie “Michael” with John Travolta.
Wizard Academy
You also have to learn something meaningful – The history of whiskey! Besides, the area is gorgeous, and the artwork is well worth seeing. You can even get married in the open chapel, which is undoubtedly unforgettable with this view.
