Even as a girl in Germany, I loved to dance and took part in a flamenco class, among other things. That’s why I found the offer at Austin High School to take Ballet Folklorico quite exciting. We went to San Antonio to a “special dealer” who had the appropriate shoes for this.
I also dance in our group after class and look forward to the next performances.

I aim to become an officer next year and lead a group section. For this, I work every other day and (to the chagrin of my parents and our lodgers) also in my free time. I have an extra area in my room that we have laid out with a wooden floor and parquet so that the shoes can clatter.
It is very exciting as the only dancer with a European background to be able to dance in this predominantly Latino group. It is especially about the representation of the cultures of Mexico.
Our ballet is proud to represent our art and school in dozens of performances throughout the community each year. We also travel to compete and learn how to improve ourselves.

It’s funny when you only see the feet of all the participants, but our trainers have to see how we perform our steps. It’s a good thing I have a big TV. I can see the pictures better than on my Chromebook.
During the time when there is no school on campus, we train at home in Zoom meetings. At the beginning, it took a lot of getting used to, but since stay-at-home classes are only online, it actually works. But it would be nicer to practice together in a group again.

At the beginning of December, we made a live appearance on Facebook because we couldn’t host live events due to the pandemic. You can watch the video at the following link:
