It is time again for our history study about Texas, and some nature should also be on our excursion plan. And so we decided that the next trip should go to San Antonio again. We haven’t been to the Riverwalk for a long time, and the weather prospects were quite good.
The Alamo – Victory or Death
One of the most important events in Texas history occurred at the Alamo. From February 23 to March 6, 1836, one of the most important battles fought by Texans for their independence from Mexico was fought. It took place at Fort Alamo (a former Spanish mission station). Initially, Mexican troops laid siege to the mission, but on March 6, some 1,800 Mexicans stormed the fort with heavy casualties. They faced only slightly more than 200 Texan defenders. They succeeded in capturing it on the third attempt, and none of the defenders survived this trauma. This battle, more than any other event, stands as a symbol of the Texans’ bravery and will for freedom.
Even today, numerous names of counties, streets, and schools commemorate the brave soldiers and volunteers who lost their lives at the Alamo. Incidentally, we viewed the Alamo with the assistance of an audio tour. So we could hear many exciting stories and additional information (highly recommended – there is also in German!).

Riverwalk
After so much historical input, we had to get some refreshments and relax a bit. The Riverwalk is always lovely, and we like to go for a walk here. This time we also wanted to use the excursion for Celina to take some photos for her summer assignment (she will take the course “Commercial Photography” in the coming school year). And a pin for her pin collection also had to be purchased.

Botanical Garden
And now that we are back in San Antonio, we take the opportunity to visit the Botanical Garden. This is a beautiful facility with great greenhouses. There is also a lot of information about the plants on display and the animals here.
There was also an exhibition about Frida Kahlo (a famous Mexican artist).

Pretty exhausted, we returned to the car and started our journey home to Austin.
Conclusion for this day: Much seen, much learned, and too much sun…
