Ballet Folklorico’s next competition was coming up in mid-March in Lubbock, and the girls have been practicing tirelessly almost daily for this event. Now they were off to the North Texas venue on Thursday to compete against other Folklorico groups in the competition.
After about 7 hours of driving, the caravan arrived in the early evening at the hotel, which was conveniently located right across the street from the event center. The chauffeurs (i.e., parents of some of the girls, Ms. Carr and Ms. Masters) were happy to get the boisterous gang of singing teenage girls out of the cars). All quickly checked into the rooms, and it was off to the first training session. Later in the evening, most of the group marched to Wallmart and Whataburger to get something for dinner. When they arrived at the hotel, several police cars were parked in front of it and denied access. Someone went berserk at the hotel and was taken into custody by the officers. When the situation calmed down, everyone could go back to their rooms and get ready for the night’s rest (as if teenagers don’t party in hotels).
The next day, a workshop was on the agenda, and all competition participants trained in new steps and movements together. It was, of course, exhausting, primarily since the participants then practiced their competition entries. Celina slept through the following room party in the evening (we prefer not to post photos here…) in the truest sense of the word. But at least she hadn’t slept through the day of the competition, and everyone looked a bit “knackered.”
Saturday came, and it was to be an overwhelming success….

ESOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
And last but not least, we parents have also won because now we no longer have to play cab almost every day and pick up the kids in the evening rush hour from training after school 🙂
