It is now December 2023, and I wanted to send my best regards and good wishes to my former schools this year. I wonder if the teachers still remember me? For my parents and me, it’s absolutely crazy that my school days are “already” over and my next adventure at university has begun. Twelve years of learning at different schools with different experiences and challenges have shaped us as students as well as our parents. Therefore, this little contribution is intended as a tribute to my schools, teachers, and after-school care providers.
09/2011 – 10/2013 – Elementary School Großstädteln
This is where I started my school “career” when I first started school. Ms. Frind (my class teacher) taught us reading, writing, and arithmetic, and I really liked her. I also enjoyed singing in the choir and playing in the after-school care center.
11/2013 – 08/2015 – Elementary School “Erich Kästner” Gera
When I was in third grade, we moved to Gera. For me, that meant going to a new school and getting new teachers, after-school care providers, and classmates. At first, I really missed my friends from Markkleeberg, but I quickly made new friends and settled into school really well.
Despite our move to Weida in the summer of 2014, I attended my elementary school in Gera until the end of fourth grade and felt very comfortable there. Unfortunately, in Germany, elementary school ends after fourth grade, and students then move on to either a regular school or a Gymnasium (academic high school). Now it was time for me to say goodbye to the Erich Kästner Elementary School in Gera, which had become familiar to me, and start a new chapter at the Max Greil secondary school in Weida. Of course, this was celebrated accordingly to make the farewell a little easier for the students and teachers. For my parents, the move to the school in Weida had the advantage that they didn’t have to take me to school in Gera every day.
09/2015 – 10/2019 – Middle School “Max Greil” Weida
My time at Greil-School was marked by numerous ups and downs. It wasn’t easy for me to find my way here, and I think my final grades at this school would probably have been below average. Nevertheless, I also had some wonderful experiences at this place.
11/2019 – 05/2023 – S.F. Austin High School, Austin
I have already written a lot about my time at Austin High School in other blogs. It was probably the best time I had at school, and this school certainly had a greater impact on me than any other school. Despite the pandemic, I achieved excellent academic results here and made new friends. The Ballet Folklórico and the numerous excursions were particular highlights for me.
So far, studying at university is still fun, and I hope that I will be just as successful here.
