The big day is here … 20.08.2011 – The enrolment of Celina in the Markkleeberger elementary school and thus the step from the kindergarten child to the engaged learning (or not) pupil is pending and is celebrated accordingly solemnly with the grandmas and grandpas.
The future students of classes 1a and 1b were welcomed by the class teachers in front of the school’s gymnasium. They got to know each other briefly before they went into groups into the festively decorated gymnasium to the waiting parents and relatives.
Here the school’s principal gave a speech to the new students and told them about the new stage of life. The children’s excitement was palpable for many moments, and actually, they were only interested in when it was over and when they would get the “Zuckertüte” (there is no word in English, but it may be translated as “school cone” or “sugar cone”, because it is normally full with candy, chocolate, and other sweets).
For this purpose, we had secretly made a bat school cone for Celina in the past few days because, on the one hand, we didn’t want an off-the-shelf cone, and on the other hand, Celina is fascinated by these mammals. So even during the event, daddy sneaked out of the room to get the well-hidden school cone out of its hiding place and bring it to school.
After the introductory words of the principal, the students of the second grade performed a dance program. Then the groups of school beginners left the gymnasium to go to their classrooms and find out the seating arrangements. The parents and relatives gathered in the schoolyard and were eagerly waiting for the first joint class photo to be taken (which was not so easy because some child was always missing). But they all managed to stand still and be photographed.
Now we went home again and came to the essential part of the day … the opening of the school cone. And lo and behold, there was (to Celina’s delight) not only sugar inside but also all kinds of valuable items for everyday school life. But of course also lots of sweets.
After lunch, we drove to Neuhof to the Lindenteich for ice cream, and in the evening, we had a happy and exhausted school-beginner daughter, who was looking forward to the first school day on the following Monday.
