Sometimes it is not wrong to look at the vacation calendar of the school. We did this on 01/12/2021 because we wanted to know when Spring Break is here. In doing so, we discovered that Monday 01/18/2021 (on Martin Luther King Jr. Day) is also free. And that meant -> Extended weekend!
So we had the opportunity to go on a short trip from Sunday to Tuesday early in the morning.
But where should it go? We looked on the pages of our airport for suitable destinations, and of course, we found them. Florida sounded great, and so we set the next adventure.
We drove to the airport on Sunday at 4:30 am to fly to Fort Lauderdale. After about 2.5 hours of flight, we landed in sunny Florida, picked up our rental car, and drove first to Miami.
MIAMI BEACH
A city full of joie de vivre welcomed us; this joy was contagious. Really awful: all these laughing people, these bright colors, the sea, the beach, and the life on the promenade.
THE FLORIDA KEY’S
After our stroll through town and along the beach (and purchasing some souvenirs to decorate our apartment further), we continued south.
Through jungle-like avenues, over numerous bridges and islands, our way led first to Key Largo.
We moved into our night quarters and spent a wonderful evening on the beach.
If we had had more time, we would have liked to stay longer, but the way to Key West, which was to be our next destination, was still far. So the following day, we continued across miles of bridges that connect the many islands.
KEY WEST
Finally, we reached the destination of our trip – the southernmost point of the US mainland – Key West. A dreamlike little town in which Ernest Hemingway already felt comfortable and sprayed the Caribbean’s charm in all facets. We were lucky enough to get a parking space right in the city center and were thus right in the middle of the hustle and bustle, which was impossible to escape in this fantastic weather.
After an extensive tour of the town, purchasing more kinds of stuff and a handmade cigar, we headed past the Little White House and the Ernest Hemingway Home to Southernmost Point.
On the way back, we had ice cream for everyone and a unique visitor on the shore of our parking lot. A handsome shark found the actions of an angler extremely interesting and constantly swam around his fishing rod.
It was then time for us to return to the airport in the late afternoon. That this still gave us a beautiful sunset was unavoidable.
The following day, Celina did her first lesson at the airport, and then it was back to Austin, where Celina was home in time for the next class. Perfect time management!
